The third edition of Opportunity Cost Newsletter (OCEN) has finally come to light. But unlike the previous issues, OCEN has been radically reoriented towards a research based cross country analysis. The “NEW OCEN” deals with important economic issues which shape our daily lives and attempts to compare and contrast the ways people of different countries and back ground, deal with such issues. This cross country analysis deals with countries with both similar and dissimilar economic profiles; from which important policy palliatives can be inferred, which our country can follow in light of our own economic, cultural and political constraints. .

OCEN does not delve into great theoretical analysis but emphasizes more on practical applications and implications, so that students with very little or even no economics background can understand economic and political issues in a more holistic manner. And hence a great deal of effort has been made to explain issues clearly and without recourse to economic jargon.

However this is just the first edition of the “NEW OCEN”, and hence suffers from some serious deficiencies. In the next edition these deficiencies will be diligently worked upon and the articles will more focused. Moreover students of other South Asian countries will be encouraged to contribute articles for OCEN and hence give our readers a much more diversified opinion to draw their own conclusions.

Lastly I give my congratulations to the entire OCEN team which has made this edition possible and to our web developer who has made such a fabulous website.

Happy reading,
