The Centre
for Management and Economic Research (CMER) at the Lahore
University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is once again
delighted to host a conference on Corporate Governance
in Pakistan. The Centre organized two international conferences
in 2004 and 2005 on the same subject, which brought together
representatives from the corporate sector, regulators,
researchers, policy analysts and practitioners. These
conferences provided opportunity to the delegates of exchanging
ideas on good governance practices and to hear the findings
of new research funded by LUMS-Citigroup Corporate Governance
Initiative at CMER. To further the goals of this initiative
CMER is pleased to announce the “National Meeting
on Corporate Governance in Pakistan and Experts’
Panels.” This year’s conference will focus
on the theme of how changes in corporate governance are
likely to impact firm/bank performance. The conference
will feature two keynote addresses by Professor S.M. Khalid
Nainar of McMaster University and Dr. Anwer S. Ahmed of
Texas A&M University, and three other paper presentations.
These presentations will be supplemented by two panel
discussions on (i) Business Case for Corporate Governance,
and (ii) Financial Fraud and Enforcement, with panel presentations
by practitioners, and a discussion format for participants.
The conference will be beneficial to representatives of
business groups, executive and non-executive directors
of companies, CEOs, key persons in the management teams,
accountants, lawyers, academic and regulators among others.
The conference will take place at the PICIC Auditorium
of LUMS.
